I had a hard time trying to figure out how to make a table on this blog so I decided to just use the information that I had in the table and group each piece of information.
Goal: Both athletics and academics play an important role in the life of a female student-athlete. I believe there will be a correlation between high academic achievement and high athletic achievement. I also believe high academic achievement will also be a factor in higher self esteem. My goal is to show that there is indeed a correlation between performing well academically and performing well athletically.

It will be important to stay on the timeline that I have set. I want to give enough time for all participants to answer surveys. I also want to give myself enough time to research from outside sources.
Your research project idea is very unique and your action plan is well thought out and well written. In keeping with this week's assignement, I am posting two comments regarding your plan.
ReplyDelete1. Is there a point in your research project in which you would consider documenting the relationship between successful athletics participation and successful academic achievement, and if so what data would you use to correlate the two?
2. If there truly is a corelation between academic and athletic achievement ( and I do believe there is) is there a way to use research to choose the best programs for increasing student achievement through academic achievement?
I hope my comments will help you continue your project. Please feel free to comment on my blog
I like that your plan is very data rich and that you have incorporated sharing activities. My only suggestion would be to add an activity from the Harris et, al. text (Step 8) Sustaining Improvement. What will you do after your project? Hopefully this helps with this week's assignment.
ReplyDeleteJackie, I like your topic. There have also been studies of the correlation of musical performance and academic performance (especially math). You might look at some research about the Duke University basketball program. Duke is consistently in the "hunt" during March Madness. Duke's basketball coach has historically held academics higher than playing contrary to other NCAA schools. Many of Duke’s players have been on the Dean’s list, as well as being pre-med. This is worthy of exploration.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the comments and suggestions. I am going to take a better look at your suggestions tomorrow! I appreciate your feedback :)
